Penetrating Oil Showdown

George P Thomas

In this video, Todd conducted a showdown between different penetrating fluids to see which one performs the best loosening rusty bolts.

He compared WD-40 Specialist, BG In Force, Seafoam Deep Creep, CRC Knocker Loose, Fluid Film, Do3T Brake Fluid, and a mixture of all the above.

The winner was Seafoam Deep Creep, followed by CRC Knocker Loose. The mixture of all the penetrating fluids did not work well.

Here are the key points from the video:

  • The bolts were torqued to 280 ft-lbs.
  • Each penetrating fluid was applied to a separate bolt and nut.
  • The bolts were allowed to sit for one hour before being loosened.
  • The torque required to loosen each bolt was measured.
  • Seafoam Deep Creep required the least torque to loosen the bolt, followed by CRC Knocker Loose.
  • The mixture of all the penetrating fluids did not loosen the bolt at all.

Todd also noted that the previous test, which involved letting the penetrating fluids sit for three hours, was not realistic. In the real world, people don't wait three hours for penetrating fluid to work. So, he conducted this test with a shorter time frame.

Overall, this video provides a valuable comparison of different penetrating fluids. If you are looking for the best penetrating fluid to loosen rusty bolts, Seafoam Deep Creep or CRC Knocker Loose are good options. However, it is important to note that the results of this test may not apply to all situations.
